Sergeant under close arrest for assaulting civilian during road rage incident

The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has launched an investigation into the assault of a man by a Police Sergeant on Saturday.

Police Headquarters confirmed that the Sergeant is currently under close arrest and is assisting with the investigation into the incident which occurred approximately 11:45hrs at the intersection of Camp and Church Streets, Georgetown.

In a brief statement, Police said the Sergeant, who was armed with a firearm assaulted the civilian in what appeared to a road rage incident.

The civilian was armed with a cutlass, the Police said.

The incident was filmed by passerby. The video does not show the civilian being armed with a cutlass at the time of the assault.

A report was filed at the Alberttown Police Station.

Police said the civilian has since undergone a medical examination.

    After having looked at some evidence from another news medium I feel, the policeman acted in the most reasonable.
    Furthermore he kept his ‘cool’and would have observed the rules that guided his action .
