Guyana’s U-19 Women’s cricket team continued their unbeaten run in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Championship with a nail-biting five-run victory over Barbados at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Sunday.
Opting to bat first, Guyana’s batting lineup struggled to gain momentum. They were dismissed for a meager 57 runs in 17.2 overs.
Only Tilleya Maramootoo (12) reached double figures.
Erin Dean spearheaded Barbados’ bowling attack with a phenomenal 4-5 haul in just 2.2 overs, while Nia Wood chipped in with 2-8.
Despite the low score, Guyana’s bowlers displayed exceptional grit in defending their total.
Danielle Manns emerged as the bowling hero for the second consecutive match, grabbing 3-13 from her four overs.
The Guyanese bowling attack was so dominant that they dismissed the top three Barbadian batters for ducks.
Crystal Durant (2-6), Tremaine Marks (2-11), and Niya Latchman (2-13) all contributed with crucial wickets, restricting Barbados to 52 all out in 17.1 overs.
Only Elicia Bowman (15) and Nia Wood (12) managed significant resistance for Barbados.
With this hard-fought win, Guyana maintains its position at the top of the points table, boasting a perfect record of three wins from three matches.
They will look to extend their winning streak when they face the Leeward Islands on July 9th at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex from 10:00h.
