The Guyana Women’s Football Association (WFA) is brimming with confidence as they prepare to send an 18-player squad to compete in the Concacaf Under-15 Girls’ Championship in Aruba.
The tournament kicks off on August 5th and runs until the 11th.
Guyana has been placed in League C, Group G, alongside Anguilla, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Aruba All Stars. Their campaign begins against Anguilla on August 5th.
The squad is a blend of nine locally based players and nine international youth players, many of whom showcased their talents in the inaugural Guyana Football Federation-Blue Water Shipping Girls’ Under-15 Secondary School Championship.
WFA President Andrea Johnson expressed her satisfaction with the team, stating, “We’ve selected a well-rounded squad capable of making a strong impression.” The rigorous selection process, involving 46 players, including hinterland talents, was a testament to the depth of talent available.
To further develop the players, two additional athletes have been included in the squad to gain valuable international experience.
GFF President Wayne Forde emphasized the importance of this tournament in identifying and nurturing young talent. “This tournament is the culmination of our efforts through the GFF-Blue Water Shipping Girls’ Under-15 Championship,” Forde said. “These girls are the future of our women’s game.”
Guyana aims to make a significant impact in the tournament, which will also be held in Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago.
