Mega Chinese company eyes making trucks in Guyana
FAW Trucks, part of the mega China FAW Group, could soon make heavy-duty vehicles in Guyana as part of a strategic move to expand its presence in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This is according to FAW Global Sales Manager, Lucas Gao. He spoke at the recent launch ceremony of FAW Trucks new partnership with Guyana’s Nand Persaud Group.
“In the future, I believe FAW will continue to observe the development potential of the Guyana market and the Caribbean region and we are exploring the construction of the production lines with Guyana as the core country to (retail) to the surrounding countries,” Gao said.
The Nand Persaud Group is entering the booming construction sector and it is doing so as the authorised dealer of FAW Trucks here.
And Gao backed the new venture, touting FAW Trucks as a good fit for Guyana.
According to him, FAW Trucks offer a comprehensive product line, a keen focus on quality assurance and good after sale services.
Now that Guyana is diversifying its economy, he believes there is much more scope to do business here.
“Also in recent years, Guyana’s economic growth by oil has driven the development of the infrastructure and construction projects under the correct guidance by the President of Guyana Mr Mohammed Ali… (and) this is also promoting the sales growth of trucks,” Gao posited.
FAW Trucks possible truck-making venture in Guyana was backed by members of the private sector.
Representative of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Richard Rambarran, who spoke at the new partnership launch, said Guyanese businesses must capitalise on the international interest being placed in Guyana.
