The One Guyana President’s Cup tournament organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the National Sports Commission was held on Saturday (August 10) at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The Guyana Badminton Association’s tournament was in the form of a team tournament, with four teams selected via a random draw.
COURT CONQUERORS: Priyanna Ramdhani (captain), Joel Rambiriche, Joanathan Debidin, Yonnneil Benjamin, Naveah Eastman and Genvieve Bookram
SHUTTLE STRIKERS: Akili Haynes (captain),Frank Waddell, Gabriel Felix, Nikolas Pollard, Mishka Beharry and Minikshi Jaikissoon
BLACK PANTHERS: Nkosi Beaton (captain),Jonathan Robinson, Egan Bulkan, Ethan Bulkan, Gabrielle Felix and Malia Haley
TERMINETTERS: Jaurel Hendricks (captain),Avinash Ramnarine, Ruel Rambiriche, Vishal Gopaul, Anjaynesa Godette and Leshaunte Berkley
Teams competed in the Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
RULES:
- Before the start of the matches every team captain presented a player’s list with five players (three men and two women). A player was allowed to participate in only two events.
- After the player’s list was submitted to the tournament desk, no amendments/changes can have been made to the list.
- In each match there will be play on five events.
- A team has won the game if more than three events won.
- The tournament shall be played according the Badminton World Federation competition rules (BWF).
RESULTS:
On the morning of Saturday (August 10) a draw was done and the tournament commenced with each team displaying a team cheer. In the semi-finals, Terminetters defeated Court Conquerors 3-0 and Shuttle Strikers topped Black Panthers 4-1.
In the final, Shuttle Strikers emerged the winners, defeating Terminetters 3-0.
The teams comprised athletes who will be representing Guyana at the Carebaco Regional Tournament in Aruba from August 22-25, 2024.
