Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Sonia Parag, visited Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam)  on Tuesday, highlighting a wave of transformative changes designed to upgrade education and infrastructure in the region.

Parag’s visit to Charity Waterfront saw the presentation of four new boats, a significant upgrade for the region’s transportation network. Among the new fleet are three passenger boats for Wakapoa Secondary, Malbrough Primary, and Siriki Primary Schools respectively.

These additions promise to provide reliable daily transport for over 60 students while ensuring that they can get to and from school safely and on time.

The headmistresses of Malbrough and Siriki Primary Schools were all smiles as they expressed their heartfelt thanks.

Additionally, a dedicated cargo boat will support schools in the Lower and Upper Pomeroon River areas, ensuring they receive essential supplies without delay.

But Minister Parag’s visit didn’t stop at transportation. She also championed the “1 Guyana Digital” (1GD) programme during her engagements with students at Anna Regina and Charity Secondary Schools.

Launched in February 2024 in partnership with Canada, this cutting-edge initiative aims to train 2,000 Guyanese as full-stack developers. Since its official kick-off on May 24, 2024, the programme has been equipping participants with skills in PHP, JavaScript, mobile app development, Python, website security, and front-end programming.

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development is committed to driving progress through innovative solutions and strategic partnerships.
