Led by brilliant individual performances from three players, Essequibo made a successful defence of the Guyana Cricket Board Under-13 Inter-County 40-over title, beating Berbice in the final round on Saturday at the La Bonne Intention ground, East Coast Demerara.
Berbice batted first and made 154 in 39 overs with Luke Amsterdam making 39 and Arif Singh taking 5-25. Fayad Baksh picked up 2-34.
Essequibo achieved the target with seven wickets down, led by a classy 73 from opener Ravid Fredericks and a solid 52 from Usain Fredericks.
Essequibo won the inaugural tournament in 2023.
In this year’s competition, Essequibo defeated Demerara by seven wickets at the Affiance ground, while Berbice ensured Demerara remained winless, stringing together a three-wicket victory at LBI.
