ARRESTED: Prime suspect in 2013 murder of fmr. GEA employee

More than a decade after he disappeared without a trace, Police have arrested the prime suspect in the 2013 murder of former Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) employee, Levoy Taljit.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that the prime suspect, 46-year-old Ryvan Francis of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara was arrested on Tuesday.

The News Room understands that the arrest was made by ranks from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Cold Case Unit, who were acting on information received.

Based on information so far, the News Room was reliably informed that a woman has related to investigators that she last saw Francis with Taljit on the night of December 23, 2013.

A few days later, the woman reportedly claimed that she found out tgat Taljit was missing via social media.

So, she said she asked Francis about Taljit and he allegedly confessed to killing him.

In fact, the woman said he allegedly stated that he strangled Taljit in his car and buried his body.

The Guyana Police Force had issued a wanted bulletin for Francis in connection with the murder in April 2022.

Taljit, a GEA field manager at the time, is believed to have been killed sometime between December 23-24, 2013.  His body has never been found.

Taljit of Anira Street, Queenstown disappeared on December 23, 2012. He was last seen driving his Toyota Raum motor vehicle, PNN 8315. The car was subsequently found vandalised days after along the Linden-Soesdyke highway.

Hours before he went missing, Taljit was scheduled to go to the supermarket with his mother.
