Police are investigating the discovery of a body in Bartica, Region Seven early Saturday morning.
At approximately 06:30 hrs, police received a report from a 36-year-old taxi driver who discovered a motionless body in the grass near Dogg Point.
The deceased has been identified as Leroy Baptist, a 50-year-old miner from the same area.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Baptist’s body lying on a piece of wood, approximately 40 metres from two nearby houses, in a clump of bushes. There were no visible signs of violence.
The body was transported to Bartica Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead at 08:00 hrs by Dr. Dayana. It has since been placed in the hospital’s mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.
According to reports, Baptist had a history of alcoholism. The police have processed and photographed the scene as part of their investigation. Further details are expected as inquiries continue.
