Plumber, AC technician arrested with illegal gun, ammo

Two men were Wednesday night arrested after they were allegedly found in possession of an illegal firearm with matching ammunition.

They attempted to escape from ranks of a Police patrol.

In custody are Omar Cliffe, 24, a plumber of William Street, Kitty, Georgetown and Cort Williams, 23, an air conditioning technician of ‘B’ Field Sophia.

The men were intercepted by ranks from the Albertown Police station at William Street, Kitty around 23:30 hrs.

They were on a motorcycle, CN 8462.

Police Headquarters said the ranks, who were on patrol duty in William Street, Kitty when they noticed the men.

Upon seeing the Police, the motorcycle stopped and they dismounted and began to run, heading north into a passageway on William Street.

As a result, Police said the ranks gave chase and caught up with both Williams and Cliffe.

But before this, Police Headquarters said Cliffe whipped out what appeared to be a firearm from the waist of his pants and attempted to throw it away.

A loud explosion was heard and Police said Cliffe fell to the ground. Police took possession of the firearm which Cliffe had in his hand.

The suspects were arrested and what appeared to be blood was observed on Cliffe’s right foot.

The suspects were taken to the Alberttown Police Station and they were placed in custody.

The firearm was examined and Police said it was discovered to be a .40 pistol. It contained five suspected .40 rounds of ammunition.

The illegal items were marked and lodged to be taken for analysis.

Cliffe was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention under Police guard.
