The inaugural Republic Bank/One Guyana National ‘B’ Division Volleyball competition served off last weekend (October 12-13) with the Guyana Volleyball Federation running off the playoff leg featuring 14 teams from different zones.
In Mabaruma, Region One, Spartans claimed the title from Thomas Hills Club 25-21, 25-16, while in Region Four, Alpha defeated Castrol Strikers to win the title 25-19, 25- 14, 17-25, 18-25, 15-10. Seven male teams participated.
In the female category, Classic Ball Blasters defeated Castrol Strikers 25-17, 25-23.
In a three-team battle, the Mighty Force team were the winners against Siparuta 25-18, 25- 23.
This weekend (October 19-20) see Moruca; Regions Five and Six; Region Two Mainstay and Capoey; and Region Seven Bartica and Upper Mazaruni all staging playoff games.
Featuring male and female teams, the tournament, hailed as the first of its kind in local volleyball, will conclude on November 10 with the top prize being G$300,000 cash, accompanied by trophies and medals.
Several individual prizes will also be at stake for both male and female categories.
