In a late-night operation on D’Urban Street, law enforcement officials apprehended three men after discovering multiple firearms during a routine anti-crime patrol.
At approximately 11:30 hrs on Wednesday, members of the CID special patrols and other ranks acted on received intelligence and approached a silver grey Toyota Allion, registered as PAF 6829, parked between Mandela Avenue and John Street.
The vehicle contained three occupants: 27-year-old Neagus Lamonzon, a security guard residing at Lot 61 D’Urban Street Lodge; 29-year-old Randolph Norton, a labourer from Lot 233 A Field Sophia; and 28-year-old Jamal Hazel, also a labourer from Lot 490 A Field Sophia.
Upon stopping the vehicle, officers conducted a search of the individuals, which yielded no illegal items. However, a subsequent search of the car led to the discovery of a silver and black Smith and Wesson .40 caliber pistol, along with a magazine containing 13 rounds of .40 ammunition.
Additionally, officers found a black Glock 19 pistol, which was loaded with 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a white box containing 23 rounds of 9mm ammunition behind the vehicle’s deck.
When questioned about their firearm ownership, all three men stated that they did not possess licenses and denied any knowledge of the firearms and ammunition.
They were informed of the charges against them, arrested, and transported to the East La Penitence Police Station, where the weapons and ammunition were marked and sealed for further investigation by the Ballistics Section.
Lamonzon, the driver, claimed that the vehicle belonged to his mother, who is currently in the United States.
The suspects remain in custody as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
