As Guyana prepares for the 2025 General and Regional Elections, President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Tuesday highlighted that adequate funds will be allocated to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) in the upcoming national budget.
“In an election year, I expect GECOM needs more resources… the budget will reflect this,” President Ali said at his end-of-year press conference at State House, Georgetown.
He added, “We made it clear that whatever resources are required, we will make it available.”
‘We’re gonna win the 2025 elections with a huge margin’ – President
The Guyanese Head of State, who will be seeking reelection, noted that GECOM has already begun its preparations for the elections. And he said his government will support the electoral body as part of efforts to safeguard democracy in Guyana.
Guyana’s next General and Regional Elections will be held in 2025.
The People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) secured the most votes at the last elections, held in March, 2020. Dr. Ali, the party’s Presidential candidate, was sworn-in as President in August 2020.
