Sparta Boss has won the first-ever Kashif and Shanghai/One Guyana National Futsal Championship, defeating Bent Street ‘A’ 8-4 in a thrilling final.
The match, held at the newly refurbished Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, saw Sparta Boss take home the $2m prize in front of a packed crowd.
Among the spectators were President Dr. Irfaan Ali and several government ministers.
Sparta Boss took control of the game with two early goals from Curtez Kellman. Although Bent Street pulled one back through Jermaine Beckles, Kellman completed his hat-trick to give Sparta Boss a 3-1 lead at half-time.
Bent Street fought back in the second half, levelling the score at 3-3. However, Sparta Boss then scored three goals in quick succession to seal the victory.
Earlier in the evening, Road Warriors secured third place with a dominant 18-6 win over Back Circle.
Lady Canaimas emerged victorious in a closely contested women’s final, defeating Lady Royals 2-1.
Glendy Lewis opened the scoring for Lady Canaimas early in the game, but Amanda McKenzie equalized for Lady Royals. With the score locked at 1-1, the match went into extra time.
A late free-kick from Lewis proved to be the decisive moment, securing Lady Canaimas the championship title.
Jermin Junior was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), while his teammate Omar Jones won the Best Goalkeeper award.
Bevney Marks of Back Circle won the Golden Boot as a top scorer. All individual award winners received motorcycles.
