Three men who are accused of attacking police ranks with cutlasses appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Fort Magistrates Court on Thursday and were remanded to prison.
Kadon Singh, 22, of Fouls Village; Renaldo Alder, 20, of Seafield Village; and Antonio Abrams, 21, of Paradise Village, faced charges of assaulting a peace officer, to which they pleaded not guilty. Abrams also faced an additional charge of resisting arrest.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Garfield Edwards informed the court that on January 28, 2025, the men attacked three armed police officers using cutlasses. This incident occurred during a children’s costume parade at Latchman Singh Secondary in Bushlot West Coast Berbice, where the group, referred to as the ‘Belladrum Gang’, was in conflict with another gang from Lovely Last, amid gunfire.
The police were summoned, and the anti-crime patrol responded. Three constables arrived; upon seeing the police, the Lovely Last gang fled, while the Belladrum gang confronted the officers.
Backup was called, and a patrol from Weldad Police Station arrived while the gang members were still engaged with the police. The incident was recorded and shared on social media.
In court, Magistrate Mohabir denied bail and ordered the accused to return on February 13.
