GAPLF’s Kiana Benjamin receives sponsorship from Fitness Express Manager, Jamie McDonald

Fitness equipment supplier Fitness Express has renewed its long-standing support for the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF), boosting preparations for this Sunday’s Novices/Juniors Championships.

The competition, which will take place at the Saint Stanislaus College Auditorium in Georgetown, is expected to feature several new athletes.

Fitness Express owner/manager Jamie McDonald presented the sponsorship to GAPLF executive member Kiana Benjamin.

McDonald highlighted the company’s 15-year commitment to supporting local athletes across various disciplines, emphasizing the positive impact of their partnership with the GAPLF.

“We’ve seen how our athletes have been able to dominate at the regional and international levels and make this nation proud,” he said. “Fitness Express is proud and will always play our part.”

Benjamin expressed the federation’s gratitude for the ongoing support and acknowledged Fitness Express’s significant contribution to the sport’s success.

She pointed to the recent achievements of Guyana’s powerlifters, including Dominic Tyrrell’s recognition as runner-up Sportsman of the Year in 2023, as evidence of the sport’s continued growth.

Benjamin also noted Guyana’s impressive record at international competitions, with medals won at every World Championship attended in the past two years and success at the South American Championships.

She added that the sponsorship will help athletes prepare for another busy year of competition.
