Parika man jailed for ATM fraud after attempting to use blank cards for illegal transactions back in 2023

Tulsie Ramprashad, a 31-year-old man from Parika, East Bank Essequibo, has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of possessing illegal devices intended for ATM fraud.

Ramprashad was arrested on October 28, 2023 at a Citizens Bank ATM outlet located at the intersection of Sheriff Street and Campbell Avenue in Georgetown, where he was caught with four blank cards equipped with magnetic strips.

Ramprashad was charged on November 1 2023 with Possession of Illegal Devices, under Section 8(2)(a) of the Cyber Crime Act 16/2008. At his first appearance before Her Worship, Chief Magistrate Ms. Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, he pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to custody. Following his arrest, the case was transferred to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where Ramprashad was granted bail of three hundred thousand dollars on January 1, 2024.

on Friday, March 21, 2025, in a session presided over by Magistrate Orinthia Schmidt, Ramprashad was found guilty of the offence in absentia. In addition to his two-year prison sentence, he was fined $800,000.
