Policeman, 34, shot dead by businessman at Vreed-en-Hoop 

Richard Hayes, a 34-year-old Police Lance Corporal, was fatally shot by a 37-year-old businessman at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling sometime Thursday morning.

Police Headquarters, in a release, said the businessman, who is the proprietor of a cell phone shop, has been arrested.

It was also noted that investigations so far indicate that there was an argument between the two over the sale of a cell phone, and the suspect shot the victim. Police have reportedly seized the businessman’s licensed firearm as investigations continue.

Editor’s note: The News Room originally reported from the Guyana Police Force statement that the man who died was named Richard Haynes. Family members have, however, clarified that his surname is Hayes.
