The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ordered an inquest into the death of 25-year-old Akeem Evans of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, who was fatally stabbed by his reputed wife during a domestic dispute last Wednesday.

An inquest is a judicial inquiry, presided over by a Magistrate. It is done to determine the cause and circumstances of a death, particularly in cases where it appears to be suspicious, violent or unnatural.

Evans, a labourer, was reportedly attacked around 18:10 hrs at the couple’s ‘B’ Field, Sophia home.

Police investigations revealed that the pair became involved in a heated argument during which the woman allegedly armed herself with a sharp object and stabbed Evans once to the chest.

Public-spirited persons rushed both Evans and the woman to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for treatment, but upon arrival, Evans was pronounced dead. The suspect subsequently fled the hospital and went into hiding.

However, the following day, sources told the News Room the woman surrendered at the Turkeyen Police Station.

The DPP’s order for an inquest comes as Police wrapped up their investigation and dispatched the file to the chambers for legal advice.
