Three arrested after deadly Canje robbery

Three individuals have reportedly confessed to their involvement in a robbery at Canje, Region Six, which led to the death of a Chinese national.

The incident occurred in Cumberland Village, East Canje, Berbice, on the morning of December 22, 2025. The victim, 61-year-old Chen Yongping, lost his life in the attack. Meanwhile, 32-year-old Cheng Dongrong sustained severe injuries.

A postmortem examination conducted on December 24 confirmed that Yongping died from shock and hemorrhage caused by multiple stab wounds.

Regional Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed that, acting on information received, law enforcement apprehended a 17-year-old from Bun Bush Dam and two 29-year-olds from Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme on Monday, December 29, 2025. During questioning, the suspects admitted to their involvement in the crime.

Commander Bacchus stated all three suspects are currently in custody while the investigation continues.
