Police probe discovery of MDMA at Essequibo Coast Secondary School
Police in Regional Division #2 have launched an investigation following the discovery of a quantity of suspected methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) at a secondary school on the Essequibo Coast.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 10:46 hrs, after school authorities reported the matter to the police.
According to police, ranks responded promptly and were handed several small transparent zip-lock bags containing a substance suspected to be MDMA, commonly known as “Molly.” The suspected narcotics were reportedly found in the possession of two students and inside a classroom.
The substance was seized and weighed, amounting to a total of 5.82 grams, and was subsequently lodged as evidence.
The two juveniles, aged 14 and 15, were escorted to the police station in the presence of school officials, their parents, and a welfare officer. During the course of the investigation, a 20-year-old male was also arrested and taken into custody.
Police say the 20-year-old remains in custody as investigations continue.
