In two days, Guyana’s Track & Field stars, both local and overseas, will clash in the inaugural Aliann Pompey Invitation track meet at Leonora. The event is hyped as one of the biggest track meet ever to grace the shores of Guyana in recent years, since it features all of the athletes who would’ve already qualified for the Rio Olympic games as well as those seeking qualification since the meet was sanctioned but the IAAF. News Room caught up with a few of the overseas-based athletes today at the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) who were all very optimistic of turning-in positive results on Saturday.
The national blind cricketers are preparing to compete in the West Indies Cricket Council for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WICCBVI) Regional T20 tournament next month, but are faced with a challenge that continues to beset sport in Guyana. The visually impaired cricketers have encountered a major financial bugbear, one that could potentially hamper their chances of participating in the tournament.
