The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has launched an investigation into the arrest and detention of Lieutenant Coast Guard Dominic Gilpin.
A statement on Tuesday from the army noted that Lieutenant Gilpin was arrested by ranks of the Guyana Police Force Monday night at Avenue of the Republic in Georgetown after a search was conducted inside the vehicle he was in.
According to the army, it is alleged that an unlicensed firearm and a quantity of cannabis were found in the vehicle.
The GDF noted that while they conduct their own investigations, they will in no way affect the work of the Guyana Police Force.
Lieutenant Gilpin has since been interdicted from the Force.
