Five in ICU as Guyana’s COVID-19 cases remain at 63

Five persons are now in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as Guyana’s confirmed cases remain at 63 as of April 18, 2020, the latest update from the Ministry of Public Health revealed.

The total number of cases includes the six persons who died. To date, 308 persons have tested for the disease of which 242 are negative.

There are 48 persons in institutional isolation, 14 in institutional quarantine and nine persons have recovered.

Guyana’s cases continue to climb with the Government reporting that there were 18 confirmed cases in the space of one week.

Of the 63 positive COVID-19 cases, four are imported cases and the other 59 persons contracted the disease in Guyana.

The confirmed cases in Region #4 represent 87.7 % with most cases in Georgetown.

“The 30 – 49 age group is where we have the highest number of positive cases, with a 4:1 ratio of males to females,” the Public Health Minister had said Friday.
