Man arrested for bludgeoning brother to death

Police have arrested the brother of 29-year-old Lakhram Dhurup, who collapsed and died at his No. 72 Village, Corentyne Berbice house on Sunday night.

Investigators have found that Dhurup, who was a joiner, was beaten to death by his brother who was armed with a piece of wood.

It is alleged that the brothers were involved in a heated argument at around 23:00hrs about Dhurup’s girlfriend.

Police said that Dhurup choked his brother, who retaliated and beat him with the wood. Dhurup subsequently collapsed and the brother took him into the house and tried to revive him by applying Limacol and water to his head, however, he never regained consciousness.

He was pronounced dead at th Skeldon Hospital.

Meanwhile, the brother’s wife had her own version of events when the News Room spoke with her earlier on Monday.

Eshwarie Chetram had said that Dhurup left to have a few drinks with some friends at the local bar in the village.

According to her, she and the girlfriend were watching TV when they discovered Dhurup lying motionless outside the door.

She said they tried to revive him using alcohol but “he was blowing” heavily and there was a visible bump on his head.

Dhurup was expected to get married a few weeks from now.
