Two bandits were arrested on Friday with the assistance of public-spirited citizens at Good Hope, Essequibo Coast.

Police Headquarters reported that a 49-year-old man of Good Hope was reportedly robbed at gunpoint of $1.5 million and three gold chains valued at $380, 000.

Three men – one of whom was armed with a handgun – broke into the man’s house at about 01:30hrs. Police said one of the bandits pointed the gun at the man’s head while another hit him in the face.

The man, police said, managed to run upstairs and started screaming for help. This resulted in the bandits escaping with the cash and jewellery.

Police were later assisted by public-spirited citizens who were able to apprehend the two suspects. A .38 revolver and a bag containing $224,890 cash was also recovered during the arrest of the two suspects.

Meanwhile, a police constable who was pushed into the river by one of the suspects during their arrest, is admitted in a stable condition at the Suddie Public Hospital.

Police said they are searching for the third suspect as investigations continue. The Police Force did not say where or when the alleged bandits were caught.
