Promising that job creation will be expanded and new opportunities will be introduced to better the lives of the working class, President Dr. Irfaan Ali believes Guyana is projected to have one of the most “upskilled” and “qualified” populations in the Caribbean region.

Delivering hisLabour Day message during a live broadcast Tuesday night, President Ali said the government has invested heavily to resuscitate key sectors in the economy, all with the intent of transforming the lives of citizens.

In doing this, he said countless jobs were created in sectors such as bauxite, sugar and forestry.

“Today through great policies we have been able to deploy back investment in the mining sector. We have full participation once again in the mining sector. The forestry sector is again able to face the bill, returning those jobs that were loss and in sugar, we have been continuously investing and returning the jobs and taking those families off the breadline.

“Bauxite, loss thousands of jobs. Today, we have been able to return more than 1000 jobs in the industry and this is expected to grow rapidly before the close of this year,” President Ali highlighted.

He particularly pointed out that 6,000 new teachers were hired and several benefits were introduced, which will impact the gratuity and pensions of these educators upon their retirement.

“…4,500 teachers were given education allowances…the adjustment we made in teachers’ salaries amounting to $1.9B…All of these increases too will also impact the gratuity and pensions of these teachers upon retirement,

“At the end of 2025, we will also have more than 5,200 new teachers fully trained and they will benefit from additional allowance,” President Ali said.

All of this, President Ali said, as done although the country was faced with a pandemic and an election crisis.

Noting that the government had fulfilled all of its manifesto promises, President Ali further noted that they will continue to ensure that workers and every citizen live in prosperity and their lives are transformed.

“With treated water, better roads, better health care, better education, easier access to services.

“To our workers out there, I want to congratulate you and thank you for all the hard work that you put in every single day to make our country better. Together, we will work to ensure that your future, your children’s future and your family life is one of prosperity. We will and we must together,” President Ali said.
