Alleged serial robber shot by police

An alleged serial robber was this morning shot by the police in ‘C’ Division after he opened fire on ranks who were approaching him to carry out a search on his person.


Hospitalised, under police guard  is Andrew Smith.


Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that the man was wanted in connection with a number of robberies which are still under active investigation.


News Room was told that Smith was seen walking in ‘C’ Field, Sophia and when he saw the police patrol approaching him, he started to shoot forcing them to return fire, hitting Smith once to his left rib and once to his left arm.


None of the lawmen was injured.


A search was carried out on his person and an unlicensed weapon along with four live rounds and two spent shells were recovered.


Investigations are ongoing.
