A Special Meeting convened by the Mayor and City Councillors to discuss the controversial parking meter started with Town Clerk Royston King laying the lengthy ground rules of how the day’s deliberations should proceed.
During the meeting currently ongoing, Mayor, Patricia Chase-Green attempted to once again persuade her colleagues on the introduction of parking meter within Georgetown.
The Mayor said she is satisfied that the decision was made since the company, Smart City Solutions Inc, is ideal to roll out the initiative.
Following a review, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Basil Williams noted that the project is not illegal, however, both the Ministries of Legal Affairs and Finance recommended that amendments be made to the concessions provided to the company in the contract.
Chase-Green said a feasibility study was conducted which shows that the council stands to benefit.
Additional details will be provided as it becomes available.
