UPDATE; Corentyne man remanded for killing ex-partner

An Ulverston, East Berbice Corentyne man was on Thursday, October 20, 2016, remanded to prison for the murder of his ex-partner when he appeared before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga at the Whim Magistrates.

 

40-year-old Winston Benjamin was not required to plea to the indictable charge when it was read to him by the presiding magistrate.

 

The court heard that on the afternoon of Monday, October 17, 2016, Benjamin murdered 38-year-old canteen operator Yansen Brusche in a shop at Ulverston on the Corentyne following a heated argument.

 

On the day of the incident, the sister of the deceased told this publication that she heard screams and quickly rushed over to the scene, only to see her ex brother- in -law with a knife in his hand and blood on his skin with the shop owner trying to restrain him.
 

The woman was picked up and rushed to Port Mourant Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

 

The accused managed to escape and fled the scene with the murder weapon. However, he was arrested the following day in the Black Bush Polder area.

 

Benjamin will return to the Whim Magistrates Court on December 19, 2016.
