High Court ruled TSC promotion process flawed

The long stand-off between the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) and the Teaching Service Commission ended today as Chief Justice, Yonette Cummings-Edwards ruled that the procedure used by the TSC for promotions is flawed.

Following this ruling, teachers who have been expecting promotions based on their years of service and achievements will be promoted by January, 2017.

News Room spoke to GTU General Secretary, Coretta Mc Donald who said the Union is very pleased with the decision.

The procedure being used by the TSC to promote teachers is based on information received from stakeholders in the education sector including other teachers, Head teachers and Regional Education Officers instead of set guidelines.

GTU and TSC having failed to agree on the list of promotions for teachers, an injunction was filed by the Union last year blocking the Commission from approving any promotions.
