Top performers of the Stag Nations Cup Knockout football tournament were on Friday morning rewarded for their performances by sponsor, Ansa McAl Trading.

Western Tigers, who defeated Santos 3-0 in the final last month, copped the $2 million cheque, while Santos took home half that amount. For winning the third place game, Police landed $500,000, while fourth placed Riddim Squad took home $300,000.

The Most Valuable Player of the tournament was Phillip Rowley of Western Tigers; highest goalscorer was Quincy Holder of Police; and the best goalkeeper was Troy Carrington of Western Tigers.

After receiving their prizes, coach Calvin Allen spoke of Western Tigers’ secret to their success in the tournament, which was coordinated by the East Bank and Georgetown Football Associations.

He alluded to “hardwork and togetherness” as key ingredients in the team’s march to championship honours. President of the East Bank Association, Franklin Wilson, congratulated the teams and players for their efforts, and said that the competition was a success. (Avenash Ramzan)
