A businessman died in a multi-vehicular accident on Camp and Middle Streets on Monday morning (May 29, 2017).
The businessman has been identified as 45–year-old Derek Mangal, a father of one, of 779 Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
News Room understands that Mangal was on his motorbike waiting at a stoplight when a Toyota Allion disobeyed the light signals and crashed into a Toyota Raum which then knocked the businessman off his bike and pinned him to a lantern post.
As a result of the impact, the cyclist who received injuries to his head and body was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The businessman was riding with his pet bird which was also killed in the accident.
Police say both drivers are in custody assisting with the investigation.
Mangal leaves to mourn his wife, Rose Mangal and his daughter who is sitting the Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) exams.
