A 22-year-old man who was charged with the murder of a waitress, was today found dead at the Lusignan prison.
He has been identified as Shelton George, who was crippled at the time of his death. Prison Director (ag), Gladwin Samuels confirmed that George was found “motionless” in his cell at approximately 05:50hrs on Tuesday, August 22.
He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Dr Cameron at approximately 06:47hrs. News Room understands that prison officials did not observe any marks of violence on George’s body. George attended court yesterday.
The Prison Director has since met with George’s mother and his lawyer; arrangements are being put in place for a Post Mortem Examination (PME). George became an inmate at the prisons on February 8, 2017 after he was charged with the murder of 48-year-old Debra Blackman, a waitress of the Delicious Chinese Restaurant cashier on D’Urban Street, Georgetown in 2014.
