A Stanleytown New Amsterdam contractor is now dead after a wooden post collapsed and fell on him at the Esplanade Park in New Amsterdam on Sunday, December 17.
The dead man has been identified as 61-year-old Pooran Singh; he was pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after being rushed there by colleagues.
Singh, who was subcontracted by Memerex Construction company to build a bridge in the Esplanade Park, was among several workers on site when one of the posts came crashing down on his head. He was pinned under the post.
His son, 34-year-old Totaram Singh told News Room that that incident occurred just after 2 pm.
The father of two was described as a hardworking man who loved his job. The police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
