A 21-year-old Auto Mechanic was sentenced to four years jail today by Magistrate Annett Singh for the $3.3M armed robbery committed on a businessman in the vicinity of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) on Brickdam, Georgetown.

Shaquille Wilburg of Public Road Buxton, East Coast Demerara, spent almost five months on remand and then decided to plead guilty to the charge at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Wilburg admitted that on October 13, 2017, at Brickdam Public Road, while being the company of others and armed with guns, robbed Linden Wilson of $3M cash along with two cellphones valued $300,000.

The young man did not have legal representation; he apolgised to the court for his actions and expressed remorse.

The Magistrate took into consideration his early plead and the time he spent on remand before imposing the four-year sentence.

According to reports, Wilson was walking in the direction of NIS when he was confronted by Wilburg, who was armed with a gun.

The incident was captured on CCTV camera and Wilburg was arrested; he was positively identified by the victim during an ID parade.
