The house engulfed in flames

A fire of unknown origin on Monday afternoon completely destroyed the home of a pensioner at Grant 1802 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne Berbice.

The owner has been identified as a 75-year-old man known as “Falan.” News Room understands that he occupied the house alone for a number of years.

According to reports reaching the News Room, the fire started in the upper flat of the two-storey wooden building and quickly engulfed the entire house.

News Room understands that the pensioner was in the bottom flat relaxing in a hammock when the blaze started a little after 14:00hrs. He was alerted by a passerby who noticed smoke emanating from the top flat.

Meanwhile, as the fire raged, heavy winds pushed it towards the neighbour’s house but quick action by residents and the Guyana Fire Service averted another disaster.
