The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Two has thrown its full support behind suspended fast bowler Ronsford Beaton.

In a statement issued to the media by Regional Chairman, Devanand Ramdatt, the RDC said it is fully supportive of Beaton during this “challenging period” of his career.

Beaton, an Essequibian, was handed an ICC suspension for a suspect bowling action, after being called during the West Indies ODI series against New Zealand last December.

Below is the full statement of the RDC Chairman.

“The Regional Democratic Council of Region Two observed via the media that Mr. Ronsford Beaton our young Essequibo, Guyana, West Indies and International Cricketer has failed an independent assessment and will not be permitted to bowl in international cricket.

We appreciate that Cricket West Indies intervened as a means of providing opportunities for Mr. Ronsford Beaton to benefit from a remedial programme.

In light of the new challenges confronting Mr. Beaton, the RDC noted with deep concern, recent uncaring and irresponsible comments made by a senior official of the Essequibo Cricket Board and Guyana Cricket Board against our sportsman.

The RDC strongly feels that strategic intervention is needed by the GCB for quality on and off field support to aid in our cricketers development; young people are assets to be developed and not problems to be solved.

Further, Mr. Beaton remain a role model for many persons in and out of Region Two; particularly our youths. We are in full support of our cricketer as he goes through this challenging period.

We remain confident that Mr. Ronsford Beaton will persevere and succeed, as his cricketing history will remind us of his tremendous sacrifice and love for cricket.

The RDC calls on the GCB and all key stakeholders to offer timely and quality support to help in the development of our local hero.

On behalf of the RDC and people of Region Two, I take this opportunity to most sincerely wish Mr. Ronsford Beaton success in the future.”
