Atlantic Fuels Inc. which was granted fuel import, storage and wholesale licenses in November 2015, has opened its first service station in Bartica, Region Seven.

Manager of the Atlantic Service Station, Roxroy Parris said there are currently eight persons employed at the facility, but he told News Room that the Gas Station also has a store which sells vehicle parts.

The company will soon add a water distribution centre and other services.

“After the first three weeks to a month, I’ll have a better picture of the manpower I’ll need to serve the community best and respectfully,” Mr Parris told News Room as he promised to provide employment for more persons.

Mr Parris believes that Bartica is a good location to make such an investment as “it is the gate to the El Dorado.”

The investment was welcomed by Regional Chairman, Gordon Bradford and Deputy Mayor, Kamal Persaud.

“We are happy that you’re investing in our township and our region and it shows that you are buoyant, you do have faith in this town and in our region,” Bradford told employees and others gathered at Saturday’s opening ceremony.

When Atlantic Fuels Inc. was granted its license, several questions were raised about the company after its directors were revealed.

Two of the known directors are Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), Dr Richard Van West Charles, who was at Saturday’s commissioning and former Debt Recovery Unit manager at GWI, Lear Goring.
