Police Recruit charged for stealing $4,000 perfume

An 18-year-old police recruit appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan Friday, charged with Simple Larceny and Fraudulent Conversion.

Eustace Hunte of Liverpool, Corentyne pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on self-bail.

It is alleged that between July 20, 2018, and July 22, 2018, at Felix Austin Police Training Centre, he stole a cologne valued $4,000, the property of Devon Griffith.

The second charge alleged that on July 22 at the same place, while being solely entrusted with a Lenovo Laptop valued $150,000 from Shamar Glasgow, he converted same to his own use and benefits.

Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones did not object to bail.

When the Chief Magistrate questioned as to why the young man was not charged departmentally, the Investigating Officer revealed that he is always in the habit of stealing from other recruits.

The case was adjourned to October 19.
