A turbocharger from the generator at Matthew’s Ridge in Region One was stolen by the operator and sold to a miner leading to blackouts in the area, the Ministry of Public Infrastructure has reported.

The Station Operator is currently in custody at the Matthew’s Ridge police station as the investigation continues for the recovery of the stolen equipment.

The absence of the turbocharger was noticed when the mechanical engineer conducted maintenance work on the generators; he observed several parts were missing from the 156VA Cummins generator.

Upon investigation, the Station Operator confessed he had removed the turbocharger from the generator and sold it to a miner.

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure said it “would like to advise residents to remain patient as we work assiduously towards a speedy resolution to the issue at hand.”
