Opposition claims phones are tapped

Members of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) believe that they are being tracked by operatives of the Government.

“We know that, we know that our phones are tapped,” said Opposition Parliamentarian and former Attorney General Anil Nandlall.

“I am of the view that we are…a number of us are under surveillance,” he told the media on Wednesday.

Nandlall could not state when the suspected surveillance began.

When probed, he said, “this has been going on for quite a while.”

He made his comments after former Housing Minister and PPP/C Parliamentarian Irfaan Ali was Wednesday arrested by police ranks at a residence in Georgetown. The location is not listed as Ali’s residence nor did Ali give ranks his location.

Ali resides at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.

“How they know where he was, how they know which premises to go and find him is also a worrying thing.

“It was not at his Leonora premise which is public information where he lives,” Nandlall said.
