A Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo family is grieving the death of their 15-month old baby who was killed when the left rear wheel of a truck rolled over him early Saturday.
Terrence Wilson was pronounced dead on arrival at the Leonora Diagnostic Centre, a police report noted.
According to the police, the toddler died instantly at the scene at around 06:30hrs.
An investigation revealed that the lorry, GVV 363 which was selling cooking gas and kerosene, was stopped by a grandparent of the infant to make a purchase during which, the child unknowingly ventured out of the yard and went under the vehicle.
The driver, 27, of North Zeelugt, Housing Scheme is in custody assisting with the investigation.
This is the third baby to have died this week in Guyana. The first reported incident occurred on December 11, when an 11- month old baby drowned at Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The second incident also occurred the same day when a 5-month old baby boy, Mason Cush, was electrocuted after he placed a live electrical cord in his mouth.
