In an effort to aid the growth of well-rounded players, the Titans Table Tennis Club will embark on two seminars, geared to tackle one significant area of player development.

On January 13 and 20, the club will host three-hour sessions dealing with Mental Toughness, specifically targeting the athlete.

Catering for male and female Under-15 and Under-18 athletes, the sessions will be held on the top flat of the Guyana Red Cross building in Kingston, Georgetown.

The initiative is geared to equip players with mental toughness skills and also boost their confidence.

Sport Psychologist Noelle Smith, a former national swimmer, will be conducting the sessions, which will take place 13:00h to 16:00h on both days.

President of the Titans Table Tennis Club, Dwain Dick, told News Room on Monday: “One of the most neglected areas (of player development) is the mental aspect. There are three pillars performances, which are basically the psychological part, the technical part and the physical part, so we thought this was necessary and Noelle reached out to us and made us an offer so we accepted.”

Dwain Dick: “One of the most neglected areas (of player development) is the mental aspect.”

Dick described the initiative as a timely one, as players are faced with a hectic upcoming season and the benefits derived from the seminar have the potential to significantly enhance their game.

“As an athlete, it is very critical that you align the mental aspect of your game with your body…that is what makes for successful athletes,” Dick, a former national table tennis player, pointed out.

Notably, the sessions are not limited to table tennis players only. Interested athletes from other disciplines are also urged to grab the opportunity to be edified on the topic of mental toughness.

Registration fee per player is $1,000. Dick informed that Smith would be conducting both group and one-on-one sessions.

Interested players are asked to contact Dick on 642-3288 or Daniel Thomas on 624-7742 for further information and registration. The deadline for registration is Friday January 11.

Meanwhile, Guyana Beverages Inc. has come onboard as a corporate partner, providing refreshments for the participants.
