The Bishops’ High and Charlestown Secondary were the first teams to seal their spots in the quarter-final stage of the seventh annual Milo School Football Tournament, which continued at the weekend at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, with its Round-of-16 games.

Bishops’ romped to the next round by virtue of shooting five goals against Cummings Lodge, who could have only responded with two goals.

The dynamic Malachi Richards continued his rich vein of form, finding the back of the net in the 17th and 81st minutes, while Romeo Bradford made his brace with conversions in the 11th and 32nd minutes.

Antoine Herod was the other scorer in the 54th. Christian Harris (51st) and Simon Ifill (80th) were the men on the score sheet for the East Coast Demerara unit.

The other match was where the nerves were tested since Charlestown came from behind to stun Golden Grove Secondary. Simon Jones pushed Golden Grove ahead in the 15th minute and they held most of the control afterwards.

Charlestown had their moments, but none truly materialised until late in the second half where Golden Grove’s defence made some silly mistakes.

Attempting to clear the ball, the defender mistimed his kick and slipped. Both goals were quite similar, and the duo of Tariq Pryce (77th) and Raymond Bandhu (80th) wasted little time to outwit the goalkeeper.

The Under-18 tournament is held in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Heath with the aim to end Gender Based Violence.
