The American Chambers of Commerce (AmCham) in Guyana has partnered with the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) to host a cash incentive tournament on June 15 at the club.
The tournament caters for four categories of players: Championship 0-10, First Flight 11-20, Second Flight 21-32 and Ladies Open 0-32, AmCham Best Gross Player and Best Net Player championship cup.
Additionally, there will be: Nearest to Pin, special Putting Contest for young players under 12, along with Chip and Putt contest.
A Long Drive Championship is also planned where any person (even those who have never played Golf) can compete against AmCham Sponsored Golf Pro, Richard Hanif and $50,000 is at stake for whoever hits the ball further than Hanif.
“We would like to see the development of the sport in Guyana. We would like to provide the opportunity for Guyanese golfers, as an avenue for them not only to compete at a professional level but to also enjoy themselves and have a good day of action,” AmCham President Zulfikar Ally told the media at the launch on Friday (April 12) at the Marriott Hotel.
More so, Red Entertainment and AmCham Board member, Saskia Wyngaarde said the event will be “something unlike any other.”
She said “this inaugural golf tournament is a preview of things to come from AmCham Guyana as the tournament will be one of a kind, on a scale never seen before in Guyana”
LGC President Aleem Hussain was elated over the partnership and envisioned the tournament would grow into an annual event and expects over 60 golfers to attend.
June 2 will be the deadline for registration.
Golfing members are expected to pay a registration fee of US$50/G$10,000, while golfing invitees will register with US$75/G$15,000; and non-members will pay a fee of US$40/G$8000.
