The Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) basketball court is the venue for the Mohamed’s Enterprise sixth annual futsal tournament for Linden teams, organised by New Era Entertainment.
The competition, which will now have an increase to 18 teams from the original 15 following the confirmation of title sponsorship from Mohamed’s Enterprise, will kick off on July 26.
Over two million in cash and prizes will be up for grabs by the respective top performers. Featuring three invited teams from Region Four, the tournament will follow a group round-robin/knockout format.
Teams would be divided into four groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarter-finals.
The grand final is set for August 17, with the champion team pocketing $600,000, second $250,000, third $100,000 and fourth $55,000.
Speaking on Wednesday, Managing Director of Mohamed’s Enterprise, Nazar Mohamed, said: “It is really an honour to be associated with New Era in this futsal competition for six years.”
Mohamed’s Enterprise was also a main sponsor of the Kashif and Shanghai football tournament, which is aligned to the New Era group.
During his address, Mohamed also called on the government to invest more in sports.
Co-director of New Era Entertainment, Kenrick Noel, expressed gratitude to Mohamed’s Enterprise for its continued support of not only sports, but towards projects in mining town of Linden.
Noel’s partner, Aubrey Major Jr., shared with the media during the brief that he intends to keep the event a Region 10 tournament and he has plans to invite teams from Ituni, Kwakwani and the highway come next year.
Cellsmart and ANSA McAL, through the Heineken brand, are the other corporate partners.
