Miguel Wong, a bright prospect in table tennis, is in need of financial assistance in order to attend a three-month training camp with Sachsischer Tischtennis-Verband eV in Germany from September 1 to November 30.
According to the former Caribbean medallist, he needs approximately G$700,000 to make the trip.
Wong, who represented Guyana at the 2018 Pan American Youth Table Tennis Championships in the Dominican Republic, has a chance to participate in a possible life-changing camp in Germany, but faces a familiar bugbear of sports in Guyana- a lack of finances.
That amount is totally on Wong’s pockets and according to him he has gotten some assistance to date from members of the Titans Table Tennis Club and the Guyana Table Tennis Association in terms of securing his Visa.
For the 18-year-old, reaching the club in Germany, which is considered the training ground for the world’s best talents from Latin American countries, will be a dream come through after years of hope.
“Hopefully I get the funds, the camp will benefit mainly me and when I return, I will try to impart what I learn to the younger players.”
“For the past three years, this is what I have been trying to achieve. I have tried many times and this time it came through because I know some of the persons and I had asked before if they can get me to Sweden or Germany, but it did not come through, so I have been waiting for this about three to four years now.”
Wong was a Boys Singles Under-13 Bronze winner in 2013, along with Under-13 Bronze in Doubles and Silver in team events. Anyone interested in assisting Wong can contact him on +592 646 0825.
