Oil and Gas: Over 100 requests daily from foreigners for visas, work permits

There have been over 100 applications every day for work permits and visas for persons coming into Guyana to work in the oil and gas sector, and that’s just a “conservative” number, Minister of Citizenship Winston Felix said Wednesday.

Felix anticipates that the number can pick up as the sector grows.

He said that the Department of Citizenship has been trying to deal with the applications in an efficient manner so as not to disrupt “work on the ships.”

He said some of the applications are for persons who just come into Guyana, get on a helicopter and then head offshore.

Felix said that if companies complain of a backlog, they would meet with those companies and try to sort out the issues as soon as possible.
