Young father killed in Leonora accident

Police are investigating an accident which occurred at Leonora, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on Saturday, claiming the life of a young father.

The News Room understands that 26-year-old Riley Charles Newton of Ruimzeight, WCD was the driver of motorcar PRR 1703 which ran off the road at Leonora at about 04:30hrs and turned turtle.

The News Room understands that Newton had to be pulled from the car and died at the scene. He was the father of a one-month-old child and worked at Republic Bank.

Two other friends were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Monesh Gopie who was in the front seat of the car suffered injuries to his head while Joseph Ramjohn who was sleeping in the back seat escaped unhurt.

The friends were travelling from a village on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) to Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) to drop Ramjohn home.
